The back of the piece is incised - Mexico, Sterling and AIS and it measures roughly 2 7/8 x 1 5/8 inches. I'm unsure as to the exact type of stone but I've seen it called carnelian and almandine. I don't know enough about stone types to say what it is except lovely.
