UPDATED**Used in good vintage condition. Please note that this does not include a pewter lid. **The last picture is what the jug looks like with a lid.** Found in an antique shop. With research & help from a collector I've found that this is a Werner Corzelius Westerwald Pottery piece from Germany. It's a reproduction Bartmann Jug (Bellarmine Jug) "Bearded Man" Salt Glaze Stoneware Clay Jug. Signed W 3401 (Slip mould number used in the late 1960-1970s) WC (Werner Corzelius) mark was used in the 1954-1990s). It has 1558 above the Bearded Man's head. It has a texture to it that feels like orange peels. The detail of this is exquisite! Per research the jugs were originally made in Westerwaldkreis in the Rheinland, which is now West Germany in the 16th-17th Centuries. I've searched everywhere and this item is hard to find. It is a gorgeous reproduction! The perfect addition to your collection.
